At the core of Handsworth Church, the Deacon and Deaconess Department embodies our mission to serve – both within our church walls and beyond. Our dedication to the community and church members is unwavering, as we engage in meaningful acts of service that reflect our faith in action.

January 2024 Report

Communion: A Unifying Experience Our commitment was evident during our first communion service of the year on January 6th, 2024, which saw over 80 participants. We ensured inclusivity for all, providing communion to those unable to leave their homes and accommodating those who could not partake in the foot washing ceremony within the choir vestry. This spirit of inclusiveness and care is what defines us.



Looking Ahead: Deaconesses and Deacons Our vision for the future is clear and collaborative.

We are planning: – To work in harmony with the eldership to create a sustainable visitation schedule. – To organise church cleaning days in April and October 2024, fostering a welcoming and clean environment for worship and community activities.

Improvements and Plans: The dedication of our deacons has already led to significant improvements around our church premises, including: – Clearing the front garden and disabled parking area of debris. – Removing an unsafe stage, addressing health and safety concerns. – Preparing for essential maintenance work, pending board approval.

Future Directions: Our commitment to enhancing our church’s facilities continues, with plans to: – Redefine the disabled parking spaces for better accessibility. – Repaint steps and varnish doors to maintain our church’s welcoming appearance. – Replace worn carpets and repair bathroom facilities, ensuring a comfortable and dignified space for all who come.
