What Is Stewardship?

Introduction to Stewardship Ministry: Stewardship extends far beyond the simple act of fundraising; it is about guiding believers to live as disciples of Christ through the wise management of all resources provided by God. This encompasses our physical health, material wealth, talents, and time.

Understanding Stewardship: Jesus frequently addressed the material aspects of life, understanding that His followers needed to grasp their stewardship roles to comprehend the higher principles of His kingdom. He emphasized this in His Sermon on the Mount, declaring, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).

The Role of the Church: The church is not just a collection of individuals but a fellowship united by a shared purpose and mutual care, growing together in faith. As described in the New Testament, the church is Christ’s body (Ephesians 1:22), where each member supports another, fostering spiritual growth and community.

Ellen White on Church Membership: Ellen White stresses the importance of a committed church membership, where the church’s prosperity should come before personal gain, as she writes: “Every believer should be wholehearted in his attachment to the church. Its prosperity should be his first interest…” (Counsels on Stewardship, page 42).

Empowering Christian Growth & Stewardship

Christian Community and Growth:
The church serves as a learning community where members are encouraged to “stir up one another to love and good works” and to meet regularly to spur each other on in Christian growth (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Ministry and Spiritual Gifts:
Every believer is called to ministry, equipped by the Holy Spirit, and ordained through baptism. God provides the necessary resources for ministry, including scripture, spiritual power, His character, and spiritual gifts.

Financial Faithfulness:
Acknowledging God as the ultimate owner of all leads to faithful stewardship. This is demonstrated through the diligent giving of tithes and offerings, acknowledging God’s provision and sustaining grace.

Vision and Aim:
The Stewardship Ministry is driven by a vision of “Disciples making disciples.” It aims for Total Membership Involvement, calling every church member to engage actively in soul-winning through prayer, fasting, bible study, and personal witness.
