Anchored and Awake

Are We Truly Ready to Meet Christ — Or Just Watching?
In a world filled with uncertainty, chaos, and constant distraction, one question quietly rises above the noise: are we truly ready to meet Christ, or are we simply watching events unfold from a distance?
Welcome to the beginning of a deeper conversation.
This first reflection in the series invites us to move beyond surface-level faith and into genuine spiritual readiness. Not fear. Not panic. But a grounded, Spirit-filled relationship with God that remains steady no matter what happens around us.
The Parable of the Ten Virgins: Watching vs. Being Ready
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom. Outwardly, they all looked prepared. They were all waiting. They all expected the bridegroom to arrive.
But only five were truly ready.
The difference was not appearance.
The difference was the oil.
The oil represents something deeply personal — our relationship with God, our intimacy with Him, and the spiritual life we nurture when no one else is watching. Readiness is not about looking religious or sounding spiritual. It is about being filled with the Holy Spirit and living a life that reflects Christ daily.
Too often, we can become focused on appearances while neglecting the condition of our hearts. Spiritual readiness is cultivated in prayer, obedience, humility, and surrender.
Spiritual Sleep Is More Subtle Than We Think
In 1 Thessalonians, believers are reminded not to sleep like others do, but to stay awake and sober-minded.
Spiritual sleep does not always look like rebellion.
Sometimes it looks like distraction.
Sometimes it looks like comfort.
Sometimes it looks like constantly assuming there will always be more time tomorrow.
We live in a world designed to consume our attention. Endless noise, endless scrolling, endless worries. Slowly, without even realising it, we can drift away from spiritual alertness.
But God calls His people to remain awake.
Not anxious.
Not fearful.
Not obsessed with speculation.
Awake.
Grounded.
Anchored in truth.
The Fear Surrounding the Future
Many people today are asking serious questions about the future.
With conversations surrounding digital currencies, increasing surveillance, and the possibility of cashless systems, many believers connect current events with the warnings found in Revelation 13 about the “mark of the beast.”
It is understandable why these concerns create fear.
But Scripture calls us to approach these conversations with wisdom, not panic.
The deeper warning in Revelation is not merely about systems or technology. It is about allegiance. It is about worship.
Who do we belong to?
Who do we trust when pressure comes?
Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 that we cannot serve both God and mammon. The true battle has always been spiritual. Long before any external system could influence society, the condition of the human heart was already the central issue.
The danger is not simply deception in the world.
The danger is allowing fear, compromise, or misplaced trust to shape our hearts.
True Readiness Brings Peace, Not Panic
If we are spiritually grounded, we will not be easily shaken.
If we are rooted in God, we will not be easily deceived.
Readiness is not about obsessively predicting timelines or trying to decode every world event. It is about remaining connected to Christ.
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we do not have to live in constant fear. God provides peace even in uncertain times.
The world may grow darker.
Circumstances may become more difficult.
Questions may remain unanswered.
But anchored believers do not lose hope.
They remain steady because their trust is not in systems, governments, or worldly security — their trust is in God.
A Personal Question for All of Us
Maybe the real question today is not, “What is coming next?”
Maybe the real question is:
Am I spiritually awake?
Not perfect.
Not flawless.
But connected.
Grounded.
Filled with the Holy Spirit.
Because in the end, it will not simply be those who observed the signs who are ready.
It will be those who remained faithful.
Final Reflection
Take a moment today to “check your oil.”
Examine your heart.
Reflect on your relationship with Christ.
Consider how you treat others — inside the church, outside the church, and within your own home.
God is not trying to trap or condemn us.
He desires to draw us closer.
So stay anchored.
Stay awake.
And stay tuned with God.
